Event description

Tropical Storm Ken is expected to impact Saint Vincent and the Grenadines within 12 hours. Heavy rains accumulating up to 100mm, strong gusty winds and thunderstorms will cause flash flooding in low lying areas such as Arnos Vale, Vermont, Kingstown, South Rivers. Landslides can be expected in areas such as Belmont, Mespo, Byera. River overflow is possible. Impassable roads and severe marine conditions with storm surge and dangerous surf possible. Strong winds may result in downed telephone lines and trees. Loose outdoor objects may become missiles. Roofs may be blown off. Utilities such as power, water and communications may be disrupted during the passage of Tropical Storm Ken. High turbidity likely due to rapid runoff. The next update will be issued within the next 12 hours.

Instructions

Secure property and livestock Stock up on water and food supplies for at least 3-4 days Securing of vessels should be rushed to completion Suspend vulnerable activities (e.g. construction, crane operation, outdoor activities) Evacuate to an authorised shelter if necessary Avoid flooded areas Avoid hazardous marine conditions and exposed shorelines Stay in indoors until the all clear is given
